At the Intersection of Improvisation and Butoh

This Workshop offers participants a refined look at improvisation based on fundamentals rooted in western and eastern body awareness. We explore different aspects of improvisation, as an art form, a source of inspiration, a practice of deepening one`s senses and as a performance tool. We take a look at the essentials of the Butoh dance with it`s subtle energetic connection to our body-memory, the soul-body, which re-minds, re-collects, and re-calls.

During the period of 5 days participants are invited to move, to watch, to conceive, to relate, to connect, to adress questions concerning perception and intuitive understanding of the own unique body, the relation to other bodies as well as the relation to it´s environment. A series of selected images and themes encourages to find/expand own movement material, to sharpen awareness, presence and articulation.

Each class begins with an introduction of organic movements, opening, centering and grounding the body through breath and weight. Guided improvisations set a frame to investigate key aspects of - *Space - Inside/Outside - *Unique body – Collective body – *Time and Gesture - *Inner images/Imagination. Following the unfolding process during the day the last part of the session is designed to create short improvisational pieces in solo-duo and group constellations.

The workshop is open to all who are interested in the connection of body, improvisation and Butoh. To all body- and movement researchers, dancers and non-dancers, who want to refine and widen their creative potential, sensitiveness and presence, to those who are working in art related fields or want to hand down movement experience.
