The sensual-concrete existence of the body is whole, multi-layered and multi-voiced. In movement as in non-movement it talks in an intuitive way to us and with us. Within the subtle and delicate space of perception, between the visible and unvisible, the touchable and untouchable, between consciousness and sub-consciousness, the dance becomes the embodiment of the soul. Improvisation changes the boundaries within which we experience the world. It sensibilizes our body-awareness and the multitude of perception.

The workshop gives an insight into the basic principles of Dance-Improvisation and Butoh Dance as well as their performance practice. It is open to everyone in quest for new creative impulses or in search for possibilities to extend the own artistic work.

Anna Barth lives and works as a freelance dancer, choreographer and artistic director of the DanceArt Laboratory in Berlin. She studied Modern Dance, Improvisation and Composition with Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis in New York. 1994 she became student to the renowned co-founder and master of Butoh Dance Kazuo Ohno and his son Yoshito Ohno in Japan. Since many years she has commited herself to the research of "Body+Memory". Barth's experimental projects with artists from different art-fields have been realized through a variety of venues in New York, Japan and Europe; for her creative work in New York City she received the "Pro-Art-Foundation Prize". In recent years she has been involved with group-works, which she considers collective works. With her own ensemble she creates performances in inside and outside spaces and unusual places.
