Oshima

The International Contemporary Art Exhibition at HABU Harbor, Izu-Oshima Island in Tokyo 2011

Statement:
No concept to arrive with was my only parameter when we reached the beautiful island of Izu-Oshima in Japan. In the aftermath of Fukushima, i asked myself – what can art do now ? What kind of art do we need now ? And how can art endure in the face of such serious disturbance ? I sensed that this encounter would be a test of all of us as artists.

Full Moon over Minato – 13th of August 2011

A old former light house at the edge of the harbor`s entrance, next to the fisherman´s house, draw my attention.
I felt this would be a good place and space for my dance.
In earlier times this tower sent out light to give orientation to those navigating ships and boats.

Step by Step the soles of my feet guided me,
breathing in the warmth of the earth.
The coolness and freshness of the wind,
the song of the cicadas entered my skin,
my body remembered!
A stone-carved map of the island
drew me in mysteriously...
my body followed some of these lines,
became part of it...of this landscape...
of the island itself...

High Noon over Minato – 20th of August 2011

Fisherman`s net I took to town...
My soul entangled in sharp edges,
casting for spirits.
Swift and delicate rain quenched
the heat of noon.
